Frequently Asked
Questions
Where will the dog park be located?
The
Eureka Dog Park will be behind the Old General Hospital next to the Sheriff’s
Senior Wood Project (SWAP) Lot.
What amenities will the dog park have?
The
Eureka Dog Park will have two separately fenced play areas. This will allow an off-leash play area for
both small and large dogs. Inside the
play areas there will be water for thirty canines, baggies to pick up after
your dog, and benches for owners to sit on. Outside the enclosures there will be paved parking, accessible paths,
and a restroom.
What about dog fights?
Dog fights can happen but are rare at dog parks where
a
group of dedicated users help enforce the park rules and educate the
public. Research has found that more
dog fights and dog attacks happen outside of designated dog parks than in them.
What rules will the dog park have?
We
will have posted rules for the dog park. Some rules will include that all dogs must be vaccinated, that
aggressive dog are not allowed, that all owners must pick up after their dog
etc.
When will the Eureka Dog Park open?
The
opening date will depend on how quickly we can raise money and get the park
built. We plan to build it in phases
beginning with site preparation, fencing, parking, and accessibility. The tables, benches, other paths, and
restrooms will be part of later phases.
How can I help?
You can join the fundraising committee, volunteer to
work our events, donate services and materials, donate money, and help get the word out.
